When Bold Strategy Meets Real Results

Celebrating 31 Days of Elation

October is our moment to shine a light on what really drives us: impact. During 31 Days of Elation, we’re pulling back the curtain on how strategy, design, inclusion, and storytelling come together to transform our clients’ brands. Today’s spotlight: a transformation story that turned a semi-annual magazine into a globally recognized, award-winning thought leadership publication.

From Magazine to Market Leader: The CEO Compass Turnaround

Chief Executive Organization (CEO) needed a bold vision—and the challenge: transform CEO Compass, their semi-annual magazine, so it would reflect the prestige, insight, and global relevance of their membership community. They needed more than aesthetics. They needed a publication that would command attention, deepen engagement, and raise the bar for what an executive-level magazine could be.

The Challenge

CEO Compass was respected, but it wasn’t where it needed to be. The visual identity felt dated. The editorial voice wasn’t fully aligned with CEO’s audience of high-level executives. Engagement was good—but stagnating. The objective: reinvent the magazine so it became indispensable, impactful, and a source of real prestige.

The Solution

We jumped in with a full redesign and reimagining of both form and substance.

  • Visual and identity refresh — We rebuilt the magazine’s visual personality to match luxury, leadership, and cultural relevance.
  • Editorial refocus — We restructured content to spotlight leadership strategy, global trends, cultural intelligence, and voices from across the CEO membership.
  • Feature architecture — We introduced recurring profiles, thought leadership essays, and member-contributed perspectives to give the magazine texture, continuity, and depth.
  • Print + digital integration — We optimized for both the tactile, high-end print experience and a digital layout that allowed global reach to over 50 countries.
  • Photo curation and design sophistication — We tailored all imagery, typography and layout to reflect a refined, executive sensibility.

The Results

The outcome? A leap from respectable to exceptional.

  • CEO Compass won the First Publications Award for Semi-Annual Magazine in Association Trends’ All-Media Contest.
  • The magazine’s status among global CEO members shifted: it became a must-read platform for insight, influence, and connection.
  • Engagement soared—in both print and digital—and visibility expanded across the CEO’s global members.
  • The CEO brand itself was elevated: seen not just as an association, but as a modern leadership community with cultural relevance.

That transformation is one of the many ways Elation delivers on our promise: not just beautiful work but work that moves the needle.

Why This Case Matters for 31 Days of Elation

This story captures what 31 Days of Elation is all about: intentional creativity + rigorous strategy + inclusive storytelling. It’s not enough to design something pretty. The design must connect, resonate, elevate. The editorial voice can’t be generic. It must reflect depth, clarity, and purpose.

In revisiting this case, we see multiple elements in play:

  • Audience alignment — knowing not just who you serve, but how they think, feel, and consume.
  • Consistency + recurrence — features that build continuity, habit, and brand identity.
  • Form and function in harmony — print that feels luxurious, digital that feels seamless.
  • Measurement and recognition — using awards, member feedback, and metrics to validate the shift.

How Elation’s Approach Made the Difference

What sets us apart is our blend of vision and craft. In the CEO Compass project, we didn’t just refresh design—we reinvented what the magazine could be. We helped the client think bigger: as a leadership platform, a community amplifier, and a source of global influence.

We also tapped into inclusion as a guiding principle: ensuring content resonated across geographies, cultures, sectors, and leadership styles. The redesign wasn’t for a narrow audience—it was built for the full breadth of CEO’s global membership.

Looking Ahead

Over the coming weeks of 31 Days of Elation, we’ll continue to spotlight projects like this—work that’s rooted in strategy, executed with excellence, and driven by purpose. We’ll share how we navigate brand reboots, inclusive content design, DEI rebranding, higher ed storytelling, and more.

We invite you to follow along, get inspired, and imagine what transformation might look like for your own organization.
