Leading with Purpose and Passion

Over the years, I have seen firsthand how effective leadership can change lives, whether in corporate boardrooms, nonprofit organizations, or municipal governance. The opportunity to challenge the status quo and champion innovative solutions—especially for women and underrepresented communities—keeps me motivated. I believe leadership is not just about strategy; it’s about soul work, and my passion lies in helping others unlock their full potential.”

A Lasting Impact

Dr. Straughter’s contributions have had a profound impact on the lives of many. Reflecting on a pivotal moment in her career, she recalls a young participant in one of her youth leadership programs who, years later, became a manager in the WNBA organization and earned his master’s degree. “He shared that the program gave him the confidence and strategic mindset to navigate challenges and step into leadership with authenticity,” she said. “That moment reinforced why I do this work—empowering individuals to see their greatness and equipping them with the tools to lead boldly.”

Words of Wisdom for the Next Generation of Black Leaders

Dr. Straughter offers invaluable advice to aspiring Black leaders: “Own your narrative and lead with authenticity. As Black leaders, we bring a unique perspective shaped by resilience, innovation, and a deep sense of community. Never underestimate the power of your story and the value you bring to the table. Seek mentorship, build strong networks, and remain committed to lifelong learning. Most importantly, don’t wait for permission to lead—step into your purpose with confidence and conviction.”
