With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Straughter has dedicated her career to transforming leadership and championing diversity, equity, and inclusion in both corporate and nonprofit sectors.
Dr. Straughter’s journey in leadership and organizational development has been nothing short of remarkable. With a master’s in organizational development and a bachelor’s in communications, she has leveraged her expertise to drive meaningful change in various industries. For two decades, she worked alongside renowned leadership expert and motivational speaker Stedman Graham, serving in a senior leadership role to develop youth leadership programs centered on identity-based leadership. Her work in these initiatives has left a lasting imprint on countless young lives, instilling confidence and equipping future leaders with the skills necessary to succeed.

As the founder and CEO of AMS Consulting Services Inc., a minority-owned HR firm, Dr. Straughter has been instrumental in leading initiatives in leadership development, government contract management, and organizational transformation. Managing budgets exceeding $15 million, she has successfully implemented impactful programs focusing on women’s and youth empowerment. Her ability to guide industry leaders in developing authentic and purpose-driven leadership strategies is a testament to her deep understanding of the evolving business landscape.
Dr. Straughter’s influence extends into academia, where she has served as an adjunct professor in the school of business. Through her teachings, she has bridged the gap between academic theory and real-world leadership application, mentoring emerging leaders and designing programs that prepare them for the challenges of tomorrow. Beyond consulting, Dr. Straughter is the chief creator of the Women Who Empower Chronicle, a platform dedicated to highlighting the voices of women leaders. As an accomplished author, she has co-authored Soul of a Leader: Echoes from Episodes from the Soul of a Leader Podcast Guests and written Strategies and Practices of Women Who Lead. She is currently developing a 7-day devotional for women in leadership, further extending her impact in the realm of personal and professional growth.
When asked what inspires her to continue pushing boundaries in her work, Dr. Straughter shared, “My inspiration comes from a deep commitment to creating spaces where leadership is both transformative and inclusive. Over the years, I have seen firsthand how effective leadership can change lives, whether in corporate boardrooms, nonprofit organizations, or municipal governance. Dr. Straughter’s contributions have had a profound impact on the lives of many. Reflecting on a pivotal moment in her career, she recalls a young participant in one of her youth leadership programs who, years later, became a manager in the WNBA organization and earned his master’s degree. “He shared that the program gave him the confidence and strategic mindset to navigate challenges and step into leadership with authenticity,” she said. “That moment reinforced why I do this work—empowering individuals to see their greatness and equipping them with the tools to lead boldly.”
Dr. Straughter offers invaluable advice to aspiring Black leaders: “Own your narrative and lead with authenticity. As Black leaders, we bring a unique perspective shaped by resilience, innovation, and a deep sense of community. Never underestimate the power of your story and the value you bring to the table. Seek mentorship, build strong networks, and remain committed to lifelong learning. Most importantly, don’t wait for permission to lead—step into your purpose with confidence and conviction.”
