Transforming Systems Through Leadership
Ms. Walker has built a distinguished career leading organizational operations and programs with strategic precision and a passion for advocacy. One of her most notable achievements is her instrumental role in launching the Disability Equality Index, the premier corporate benchmarking tool for the disability community. This groundbreaking initiative has provided corporations with essential guidelines to promote disability inclusion and equity in the workplace.
Beyond corporate advocacy, Ms. Walker has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at expanding opportunities for individuals with disabilities. She has spearheaded programs that provide youth with disabilities meaningful work experiences in Washington, D.C., addressed STEM readiness gaps for middle and high school students, and worked closely with healthcare providers to adopt evidence-based practices that reduce asthma triggers in children. Her multifaceted approach to social impact has led to significant improvements in accessibility, education, and public health.

Her leadership has been instrumental in building robust networks that support marginalized populations. “I push boundaries because I believe nonprofits should be respected not only for their missions but also for their professionalism, expertise, and transformative impact.”
A Trailblazer in Professional Development
Ms. Walker’s educational background is as impressive as her professional accomplishments. She holds a master’s in management and marketing from the University of Maryland University College, a master’s in liberal studies from the University of Missouri Kansas City, and a bachelor’s in psychology and communications from the University of Tulsa. Leading with Purpose and Passion
When asked what inspires her to push boundaries in her work, Ms. Walker reflects on the values that drive her: “I am deeply grounded in my core values and the fundamental reason I entered the nonprofit sector—to help people and change the world. Over the years, I’ve realized that my greatest impact comes from strengthening and sustaining organizations that drive meaningful change. I push boundaries because I believe nonprofits should be respected not only for their missions but also for their professionalism, expertise, and transformative impact. My work is about elevating this sector, ensuring that nonprofit leaders are seen as the strategic, innovative professionals they are. I strive to model the balance between passion and purpose-driven leadership to create lasting change.”
“Be audacious. Early in my career, I heard a speaker challenge the idea of ‘thinking outside the box,’ arguing that the box doesn’t exist at all.”
Measuring Impact and Leaving a Legacy
Ms. Walker finds fulfillment in seeing the lasting impact of her work. “I often see the true impact of my work after I’ve stepped away from an organization. When I know I’ve laid the foundation for a stronger, more effective operation—whether through improved stakeholder communication, a lasting partnership that continues to drive fundraising success, or a program that still creates meaningful experiences—I feel a deep sense of accomplishment. Another measure of my impact is the growth and success of those I’ve mentored and led. When former employees share how their confidence grew, or how a project I entrusted them with led to a promotion, it reaffirms my purpose. My goal is always to leave organizations and individuals better than I found them, and I have the evidence to prove that I’m making a lasting difference.”
Words of Wisdom for Future Black Leaders
Ms. Walker’s advice to the next generation of Black leaders is both powerful and practical: “Be audacious. Early in my career, I heard a speaker challenge the idea of ‘thinking outside the box,’ arguing that the box doesn’t exist at all. That perspective became my mantra. Believing in a box creates unnecessary limitations, and as Black leaders, we already face enough real barriers without imposing imaginary ones on ourselves. Push boundaries, challenge norms, and embrace bold ideas. Most importantly, don’t mistake fear for caution—growth requires stepping into discomfort. Lead with confidence, take up space, and know that your vision and voice are powerful tools for change.”
Celebrating a Changemaker
Ms. Walker’s remarkable contributions to disability rights, education, and nonprofit sustainability make her a true leader in her field. Her unwavering commitment to advocacy, leadership, and equity continues to inspire and shape the future. As we celebrate Black History Month 2025, we honor her achievements and recognize her as a powerful force for progress. Through her transformative work, Ms. Walker exemplifies the essence of Black excellence—leading with purpose, elevating others, and leaving a lasting legacy of empowerment.
