Inclusive Communications and Leadership

Leaders who commit to inclusive communications drive innovation and growth within their organizations.

Leaders who practice inclusive communications set a powerful example for the organization. By embracing the principles of inclusivity in leadership, you foster a thriving, diverse workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. In a recent video interview, Elation Communications President and CEO Jerrica Thurman delves into the core principles of inclusive communications in leadership with Dr. Jacob Easley II, founder, president, and CEO of Xcelerated Excellence Consulting. His firm supports the education profession in fostering greater equity for historically underrepresented, marginalized, and under-resourced student communities. Dr. Easley is also founder and host of the EDUP Xcelerated Excellence Podcast, which advances educational effectiveness and equity across traditional and nontraditional learning experiences and contexts through engaging educators, scholars, entrepreneurs, advocates, and policymakers at all levels.

Dr. Easley provides critical insights on why it is important for leaders to implement inclusive communications in the workplace. “Inclusive communication is one of the pillars of equity. You cannot have full equity if people are not included. Finding out how individuals want to be included, should be included, and thinking about the means for how we communicate with them, how frequently, and how to monitor to ensure we’re doing a good job are important aspects of leadership,” Dr. Easley said. “We must keep in mind as leaders that the day-to-day work is shouldered by our rank-and-file individuals. If they don’t feel included, then they may not understand the mission or purpose of their work and how to contribute their ideas in a productive way within the organization.”

A champion for equity, Dr. Easley outlines how inclusive communications advances educational equity. He addresses ways communities can support student learning through inclusive communications during the 27-minute interview with Jerrica. They also discuss how leaders can become inclusive communicators. Learn more about this relevant topic. Take time to tune in!
